300-word Story

As a freshman, I was shy and still in the process of developing my people skills. I took what was at the time a big step for me in my journalism career and decided to talk to a substitute teacher I had never met before -- unplanned and unscheduled. I spoke to Mr. Attipoe and discovered he had an incredibly interesting life. I was able to write about his cultural experiences in this 300-word story.

Blog

As a freshman, I wrote this blog about my experience being Latina and struggling with my identity in terms of my appearance and the misconceptions those around me have. Now, I view this as one of my weaker pieces. However, I feel it shows my growth as a journalist and touches on a subject that was very, and continues to be, important to me.

News-based 300-word Story

This piece was a news-based 300-word story in which I spoke about a new Latin teacher at CCHS, while also tying in the International Baccalaureate aspect of my assigned news beat. This piece is not only evident of growth in my journalistic skillset, but also growth in my storytelling abilities.

News-based 300-word Story

In the first semester of my sophomore year, I was assigned to cover news in the drama department. There, I covered various topics and found there was one student that made a significant impact on his peers and the department. I wrote a news-based 300-word story on this student and interviewed his drama instructor and classmates to give readers a better understanding of him.

300-word Story

As a sophomore, I approached a girl in my math class I didn't know very well in hopes of getting to know her for a 300-word story. The interview went well and I was able to connect with someone who I have maintained a relationship with to this day and craft a heart-warming piece.
