Champion Journalist Portfolio
Workshop Presentation
As a rising sophomore and upcoming Variety Editor for the ODYSSEY Newsmagazine staff, I created an intro to the Variety Section presentation for the 2015 ODYSSEY summer journalism workshop. This was my way of sharing my knowledge of my section with new staffers, as well as establishing my presence as an editor and a leader on staff.
GSPA & NSPA Presentation
In the first semester of 2016, Lead Copy Editor Jordan Rhym and I created and presented this presentation on staff manuals for both the Georgia Scholastic Press Association Journalism conference and the National Scholastic Press Association journalism conference. GSPA was my first times presenting at a conference. As a result of both these presentations, I was able to engage and network with other publications, as well as establish a confidence in my presenting abilities.
Updating the ODYSSEY staff manual
Lead Copy Editor Jordan Rhym and I worked over the summer to update our staff manual. We added sections, edited old or outdated content, and I redesigned the entire book, making it more appealing to our new staff members. This was my first major task as Editor-in-Chief and a member of our staff's Leadership Team. .
Teaching design
I created a "Design Survival Guide" compiled of elements from the design section of the ODYSSEY Media Group's stylebook and my own knowledge of InDesign to help staffers design their layouts.

Handling sensitive issues
When there was a sexual assault incident involving a CCHS student off campus, I took it upon myself to send an email to my staff informing them of the email our principal sent, along with speaking personally about the issue and encouraging them to use their voice as journalists. This was during the end of my sophomore year, when I was only recently informed I was to be the next Editor-in-Chief of the Newsmagazine. This was my first step towards becoming a major leader for my staff.
Leading EdBoard meetings
As Co-Editor-in-Chief, I lead monthly edboard meetings with my Co-Editor. Aneesa and I always set an agenda, and in our meetings we set goals for the week, receive updates from editors on their progress and discuss any necessary action steps. This has become routine for the editorial board.
